Ivory Object Conservation

Japanese Ivory Object Conservation

This antique Japanese ivory sculpture was unfortunately involved in a home invasion, and was heavily damaged when it was thrown off its base, urinated on, and had floor sealer sprayed on it. Our conservators worked diligently and completed hours of research to determine how to best remove the urine and sealer from the ivory. We also seamlessly reattached two pieces to the head area. We are currently working on an article about this project for the American Institute for Conservation.

Evidence of the floor sealer, urine, and physical damage can be seen in this image.
