Bayou Preservation restored the historic Durel Tomb in the famous St. Louis #1 Cemetery in New Orleans. The owner of this tomb stumbled onto the resting place of his ancestors during a tour of the cemetery, and then hired our team of conservators to restore the tomb. Restoration included rebuilding parts of the roof reusing the historic bricks, re-plastering the tomb with lime plaster, matching the historic limewash color (a rustic pink!), and carefully reinstalling the marble closure tablet. We also added a surround to the tablet (this will help protect it) using other historic tombs as a design precedent.
