New Orleans Limewash

This limewash sample has five coats. We layered a series of yellows, blues, and greens to achieve warmth and dimension. Limewash should not look like paint - it should have more variation and interest.

what is limewash?

Limewash is a breathable mineral coating made of lime (calcium hydroxide), water, and pigments. We custom mix all our limewashes, using recipes modeled after the historic limewashes that we have encountered on cemetery and building projects in New Orleans. We let our lime putty soak for months and mix it with earthen and iron oxide pigments to achieve colorways that are rich and full of dimension. We always recommend layering colors to achieve depth and movement. Limewash can be applied on unpainted brick, unpainted stucco or plaster, or it can be applied on drywall that has been treated with special primers. We can sell limewash by the gallon, or provide a quote for the materials and installation.
