Bayou Preservation specializes in the hands-on conservation of historic and artistic works. Based in New Orleans, our conservators carefully restore historic tombs and mausoleums, sculptures, objects, and architectural elements, and also perform materials analysis for historic buildings.

Qualifications

Bayou Preservation's conservators have a variety of backgrounds and specialties in materials conservation. All of our conservators have post-graduate degrees in Historic Preservation, and we are proficient in masonry, stone, plaster, metals, and paints and coatings.

Involvement

Bayou Preservation is involved in several local and national organizations related to Materials Conservation and Historic Preservation. These include Save Our Cemeteries, American Institute for Conservation, and the Association for Preservation Technology.

    Bayou Preservation completed the restoration of the large, cruciform Poydras Tomb in Lafayette Cemetery #1.     Bayou Preservation completed the full restoration of this Gothic-style tomb in New Orleans in January 2015. This restoration included extensive marble cleaning, plaster, rebuilding one of the two small towers, and limewash.

    Bayou Preservation completed the full restoration of the Marie Laveau Tomb in the St. Louis Cemetery #1 in New Orleans.     Barthel Tomb – Private Owner
    Bayou Preservation re-plastered and created a custom color limewash for this tomb located in Lafayette Number 1 in New Orleans. The blue-gray color was selected by the client, and it is similar to a traditional color that was historically used in New Orleans cemeteries.  Bayou Preservation also cleaned and treated the marble.
